Letter from Dive Coach:

Dear Divers and Parents,
As the new head diving coach for Katonah, I would like to welcome our new members as well as our returning ones. To quickly introduce myself, my name is Amanda DiMarco. I just finished my second year at Villanova University where I am also on the dive team. I also dove in the Northern Westchester Swim Conference (just as this one) for 4 years and currently hold the record for 18 & under.
It is my goal to help build a foundation and passion for diving in all of you. For those more advanced I hope to aid in learning new dives as well as perfect the ones you already have. And for those just starting out or giving it a try, I hope I can help you want to continue in learning. However, my main goal is to have fun and enjoy the season.
The dive season is approximately six weeks long from start to finish. The first week is mainly for building and working on basics and for me to personally get to know each diver.
Diving is based on guidelines that must be followed very carefully. In order to compete in an “A” meet, a diver MUST be able to complete FOUR different dives from THREE different groups, the first dive must always be a front dive either in the tuck, pike or straight position. If a diver does not have 4 dives, he or she WILL NOT be permitted to compete in an “A” meet. Age groups are 18 & under and 13 & under.
Also:
Two girls and two boys from each age group will be picked to dive in each meet.
Once a diver is on the board, coaches cannot say anything to the diver, or the diver will be disqualified.
A diver shall make a sincere attempt to perform each dive.
A diver is disqualified and shall perform no further dives if he or she fails 2 dives (determined by the official).
In order to compete in a “B” meet, a diver must be able to complete TWO dives from TWO different categories. Jumps do NOT count. Also, a diver must not have placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in an “A” meet.
A few things I ask of parents and divers to help this season run smoothly:
1. Attendance is expected at every practice (once the regular season starts, pre season is optional). We practice every day, weather permitting, Monday thru Friday except on meet days. The season is short and I want everyone to get the most out of each practice. If you are to miss a practice, please call, text or email me in advance. Practice is MANDATORY the day before a meet.
2. The selection of divers for meets will not be solely based on diving ability. Having the “highest” score does not mean you automatically compete in every meet. Effort, good sportsmanship, a good attitude and work ethic, along with attendance at practice will all factor in selection decisions.
3. Respect and good sportsmanship is expected at all times amongst team members and coaches. I also expect myself to return the same back.
4. If there is ever any concern, question, or conflict please confront me as soon as possible about it.
I am very excited for the start of this season and cannot wait to get started.
Sincerely,
Amanda DiMarco
